MEET OUR DOCTORS
Dr. Shaun Ittiara is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Specialist. Dr. Ittiara is the former Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. He serves as a Clinical Associate at the University of Chicago, and teaches as a Clinical/Surgical instructor for the accredited University of Chicago Vitreoretinal Fellowship training program. He also serves as a Clinical Faculty in Advanced Care at the Illinois Eye Institute.
Dr. Ittiara graduated from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He pursued post graduate training at Ochsner Health System/Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans where he served as Chief Resident. He pursued more specialized training in a medical/surgical Vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Paul Chiranand was raised in Oak Forest, IL. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Saint Louis University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he was recognized amongst the top medical graduates as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Chiranand completed a one year internship at Forest Park Hospital in St.Louis, MO. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Saint Louis University in 2009 where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Chiranand then completed a two year vitreo-retinal fellowship at the University of Chicago in 2011. His training included diagnosis and management of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and other retinal abnormalities. Dr. Chiranand has participated in several national clinical studies related to treatments for diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous. He is an author of many peer reviewed publications and co-author of the latest edition of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Review Manual for Ophthalmology and American Society of Retina Specialists.
Dr. Chiranand serves as clinical professor at Loyola University where he instructs ophthalmology residents in their clinical and surgical training. During his time there he was awarded the prestigious Educator of the Year in 2021 for his contributions in resident education. He is also a Clinical Associate at the University of Chicago.
In his free time, Dr. Chiranand enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and watching sports.
Dr. Paul Chiranand, MD
Dr Liang is a Board certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal specialist.
He has had a long interest in retinal conditions, especially diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. He has seen the care of these and other blinding retinal conditions greatly improve over the many years he has been in practice.
Dr Liang did his undergraduate studies in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He attended medical school at the University of California, San Diego. His ophthalmology residency, retina fellowship, and chief residency were all at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. He served on the retina faculty of the University of Illinois and the University of Southern California. He was involved in a number of retina clinical trials that form the basis of today’s retinal care. Since 1985 he has devoted his retina career to the care of patients in the southwest suburbs and Chicago. In 1997 he opened the Oak Lawn office of Retina Macula Care.
Dr Liang believes strongly that kindness and compassion are essential for today’s retinal care.
